¡Hola mis queridos amigos!

Hi my dear friends! 

¡Este semana fue bien milagrosa! Fuimos a mi última Conferencia de Zona y hablamos mucho acerca del Libro de Mormón. Realmente es la clave de nuestra religión y mi creencia en Jesucristo se basa en ello. Por el Libro de Mormón, no hay duda de que Cristo es El Salvador del mundo, el Hijo Unigénito del Padre, el Redentor del Mundo. Yo sé que Jesucristo vive, y que por él podemos ser salvos. No hay ninguna duda en mi mente de esto. Sé que al leerlo, encontrarán paz, felicidad, y gozo eterno. Es algo que ha cambiado mi vida, y la vida de muchos de mis amigos.

This week was miraculous! We went to my last Zone Conference and talked a lot about the Book of Mormon. It really is the key to our religion and my belief in Jesus Christ is based upon it. By the Book of Mormon, there is no doubt that Christ is the Savior of the world, the only begotten of the Father, and Redeemer of the world. I know that Jesus Christ lives, and that through him, we can be saved. There is not a doubt in my mind of this. I know that as you read it, you will find peace, happiness and eternal joy, it is something that has changed my life, and the lives of many of my friends.

Personalmente, me ha bendecido bastante. Todavía recuerdo el día en el cual tenía mi primer ataca de ansiedad. Gracias a mi Padre Celestial, tenía un amigo fiel quien, después de escucharme, me dijo, "Breanna, tienes que leer tu Libro de Mormón y orar. Dios te ama, por favor, no lo olvides." Me cortó la llamada y empecé de leer. Paré después de algunos versículos y oré. Al orar, un sentimiento de paz inefable entró mi corazón, y sentí el amor de mi Padre Celestial. Se, de propia experiencia, que el Libro de Mormón es verdadero, y que testifica del amor de nuestro Padre Celestial.

Personally, it has blessed me very much. I still remember the day when I had my first anxiety attack. Thanks to my Heavenly Father, I had a loyal friend whom, after hearing me out, said, "Breanna, you have to read the Book of Mormon and pray. God loves you, please don't forget." He hung up after that, and I started to read. I stopped after a few verses and just prayed. As I did so, a feeling of peace that I can't explain entered my heart, and I felt the love God had for me. I know, of my own experience, that the Book of Mormon is true, and that it testifies of the love of our Heavenly Father.

Es por el Libro de Mormón que estoy aquí, corriendo de casa en casa anunciando la verdad. Cristo vive, Dios nos ama, y han extendido sus manos otra vez en amor para guiarnos mediante un profeta. 

It is because of the Book of Mormon that I am here, running from house to house announcing this great truth. Christ lives, God loves us, and they have extended their hands again in love to guide us through a living prophet.

Weekly Report

Hola mis amigos!!!

Okay, gotta type fast this week, as always.

It has been a crazy awesome week!

We had transfers on Wednesday and our Ward received a new set of Hermanas, so there are 3 sets of missionaries now serving in the Cortez Ward! It is awesome! Hermana Chavez came here with a new Hermana, named Hermana Scanlan! They are great. We also will get to have our own Spanish District now because there are enough of us to put together a District, so Tuesdays will be a blast! I am looking forward for the opportunity to immerse myself even more in the Spanish language!

Things are going really well here! The Elders will be having a baptism this week and we are going to have a Missionary Bootcamp on Sunday night, to teach the principles of Missionary Work to the members of the ward. It is going to be amazing.

Miracle this week.... Too many!

We had a Noche de Hogar (Family Home Evening) with Leo and Suzie and the Bishop's family and it was definitely spirit led. We planned to talk about Lehi's Dream from the Book of Mormon, and when we sat down and started chatting before the lesson, Bishop Partida said "Leo you have to hold tight to the Iron Rod!" It was so cool. We said, "Bishop, that is exactly what we are talking about today! How did you know?" We were all laughing at the end too, because he did this little activity, which was also exactly what we had written down in our plans! Either we are pretty easy to figure out, or our Bishop is called of God. I think the latter of the two is true.

On Thursday, we had our first "Member Meal." We had dinner lined up with Leo and Suzie and a couple from the ward, but Leo and Suzie had to cancel last minute, so we just ate with the member couple instead. Well, it was so cool. It's the first time in my whole mission that I have just eaten dinner in a members home, without having investigators there, and the spirit was just so strong. She even called another couple to come join us who will be getting sealed on the 19th of August, so we were able to share a message with everyone. It was so amazing to feel the spirit work through us and feel that the message we were sharing was what they needed at that time. I know that God guides his children and that we are called to the Wards/Branches/Stakes we are called to to uplift and bless those we serve with.

Saturday, was amazing. (But then again, Missionary Work in general is amazing!) (:

So, we were south of our apartment around 8:15, and we were debating going home early in order to catch up on 12 Week, when Adonay, a former investigator, called us. He said "I see your car parked across the street, why don't you come visit me anymore?" We said that we had tried to come by a few times, but he had never answered, and we didn't even have his most recent phone number to call him about anything. Anyways, we decided to go by and he wants to learn again! It was cool because he told us about his doubts and how he really just wants to know and we talked about how he can pray and receive answers and shared Elder Bednar's comparison about how to receive answers from the spirit. Such a miracle.

We were asked to read "The Greatest Generation of Young Adults" by Elder M Russell Ballard from the April 2015 General Conference in preparation for District Meeting this week, and it is definitely worth the read! He made a few references to the Army of Helaman, and it has caused me to ask myself 3 questions:

"How can I be more like the stripling warriors?"

"How can I learn to teach more like their mothers taught them, while I teach my investigators?"

"How can I become more like Helaman in the way that he leads them, with respect to the Sisters in the Zone?"

I thought it was so interesting how many ways I could apply this scripture to myself, and will be studying it out this week.

Sorry it has been a few weeks since I have written, it has been a
hectic few weeks here in Cortez!

I wanted to write a little bit about a few things I learned this week.
I will start with something my 12 year old sister taught me! She read
the whole Relief Society Lesson before class on Sunday, as the Young
Women were invited to attend Relief Society, and said that this was
her favorite part:

In the April 1975 general conference, Elder Gordon B. Hinckley, then a
member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, shared the following
experience:
"We recently held an open house in the [Mesa] Arizona Temple. Following a
complete renovation of that building, nearly a quarter of a million people
saw its beautiful interior. On the first day of the opening, clergymen of
other religions were invited as special guests, and hundreds responded. It
was my privilege to speak to them and to answer their questions at the
conclusion of their tours. I told them that we would be pleased to answer
any queries they might have. Many were asked. Among these was one which
came from a Protestant minister. "Said he: 'I've been all through this
building, this temple which carries on its face the name of Jesus Christ,
but nowhere have I seen any representation of the cross, the symbol of
Christianity. I have noted your buildings elsewhere and likewise find an
absence of the cross. Why is this when you say you believe in Jesus
Christ?' "I responded: 'I do not wish to give offense to any of my
Christian brethren who use the cross on the steeples of their cathedrals
and at the altars of their chapels, who wear it on their vestments, and
imprint it on their books and other literature. But for us, the cross is
the symbol of the dying Christ, while our message is a declaration of the
living Christ.' "He then asked: 'If you do not use the cross, what is the
symbol of your religion?' "I replied that the lives of our people must
become the only meaningful expression of our faith and, in fact, therefore,
the symbol of our worship. "… No sign, no work of art, no representation
of form is adequate to express the glory and the wonder of the Living
Christ. He told us what that symbol should be when he said, 'If ye love me,
keep my commandments.' (John 14:15.) "As his followers, we cannot do a
mean or shoddy or ungracious thing without tarnishing his image. Nor can we
do a good and gracious and generous act without burnishing more brightly
the symbol of him whose name we have taken upon ourselves. "And so our
lives must become a meaningful expression, the symbol of our declaration of
our testimony of the Living Christ, the Eternal Son of the Living God. "It
is that simple, my brethren and sisters, and that profound and we'd better
never forget it."(1)

I loved that! Recently I have been thinking a lot about my mission and
about the fact that sooner or later I will not be able to wear my
Missionary name tag anymore. It is a thought that has saddened me, but
this quote comforted me. My badge is merely a symbol of the time I
have here, but the symbol of my dedication to Christ is and always
will be manifested by the way I act. It isn't something that can be
put into words or captured by numbers, not even a photo can capture
it. The way I live my life must be the symbol of my dedication to my
Heavenly Father. I know that someday I won't be a full time
missionary, but I rejoice in the fact that I can always be a disciple
of Christ.

In District Meeting, we talked about the story of Peter. After Jesus
Christ died, the apostles looked to Peter to see what to do, and they
all returned to go fishing. They went back to the nets that they had
so willingly forsaken some years prior, and took up their old ways
once more. It made me think about what I will do when I go "back to
normal life." I do not wish to take up those old nets. I hope to
continue to be a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ and know the only
way to do that is to consecrate myself now. I love this work and I
love that I will always have an opportunity to participate in it.

Once you have taken up the plea to "come follow (Him)," stay on that
path, don't return for your discarded nets.

We have been working hard these past few weeks and have been blessed
with wonderful experiences. There are still many searching after our
Savior Jesus Christ and the restoration of His Gospel on the earth
today. Don't hesitate to open your mouth and share!

This week has been awesome!

Although we started out with some problematic bikes on Monday, by the
end of the week we had conquered every challenge we were faced with
and came out triumphant!

Daniel was confirmed on Sunday morning and it literally brought the
spirit to the meeting and made Sacrament Meeting very special. I had
the opportunity to speak and I wanted to share a few thoughts I shared
on Sunday:

We don't have to wait until Easter Sunday to celebrate the
resurrection and sacrifice of our Savior. Every week, we gather
ourselves in His name to partake of the sacrament, reminding ourselves
of the covenants we have made, and the possibilities available through
repentance. About the sacrament, Jesus Christ taught:
"Take this, and divide it among yourselves. This is my body which is
given for you: this do in remembrance of me. This cup is the new
testament in my blood, which is shed for you" (Luke 22:17-20
As we partake of the sacrament, we have time to reflect upon the
sacrifice of Jesus Christ and upon our baptismal covenant to "take
upon (ourselves) the name of (the) Son, and remember him always and
keep His commandments which He has given (us)" (Doctrine and Covenants
20:77). As we keep this promise, we receive the blessings to "always
have His Spirit to be with (us)" (Doctrine and Covenants 20:77).
To understand better the Sacrifice Jesus offered, I turned to the scriptures...

As I read those scriptures I thought about the humility of Jesus
Christ and how, although he was the Son of God, he was humble enough
to be born in a manger and laid up in a tomb that had to be hewn out
of the stone. It made me think of the scripture in John 14:27 "peace I
leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth,
give I unto you" and about the video the church released. I love the
words. Go watch it again! #PrinceOfPeace

I want to add my witness that Christ lives and that He loves us. He
gives us peace that families are forever, that all wrongs shall be
righted in Him and that we truly have No Need to Fear.

Hola mis amigos! 

This week was awesome! We had Conferences on Conferences on Conferences!! 

First off, Zone Conference! Wow. I learned so much and truly saw a vision of who I want to become as a person someday. I have realized that I don't want to just be an "awesome missionary" but someone who invites everyone to learn more about our Savior because of the way they act. Someone who can say "if ye have seen me, ye have seen the Savior" or at least one of His disciples. We sang a song at the beginning of the Confernece, "Brightly Beams the Father's Mercy." It is special to me now. Sister Hunt was with us as we practiced and explained that the lower lights light the way to the Lighthouse, and that if the Lighthouse is Jesus Christ, we are the lower lights. Here are some of my favorite parts, I think you will see why: 

"Dark the night of sin has settled;

Loud the angry billows roar.

Eager eyes are watching, longing,

For the lights along the shore.

Let the lower lights be burning;

Send a gleam across the wave.

Some poor fainting, struggling seaman

You may rescue, you may save."

I think about those lines, and about my purpose, as a Daughter of God, to be a light to those around me, so that they can make it safely into the harbor. It is a purpose that each of you has also, as we learned from some of the apostles this weekend at General Conference.

I LOVE General Conference. If you missed a session, go back and watch it, because it is amazing. There were too many things I liked to include in one email, but I want to stress the importance of 3 things I learned:

1. In order to be a true disciple of Christ, we must have integrity and act out of charity.

2. If we fail to follow the spirit, we fail to follow Christ, and therefore cannot invite others to join us and "come, follow (Him)." 

3. We must have a vision of who we want to become, before we set goals or make plans to get there.

This is why understanding God's Plan of Salvation is SO important. Once we understand the plan He has, we understand our place in it and the need to share it with others. The church just released the new Easter Video and it demonstrates the peace we receive from learning of our Savior and the plan our Father has for us, as well as our Saviors crucial part in that plan. I love the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and everything that He has done for us to make it possible to return home. I add my testimony to those borne that He lives, and that because He lives, "all things are possible."

Women's Conference

Hola mis amigos!

This week has been awesome! I just love watching General Conference and hearing what our leaders have to say to help inspire us and lift us up! 

Women's Conference was especially fun because we spent the whole week inviting everyone we knew to come and see! I felt like a shepherd during the birth of Jesus Christ or something! We literally just told everyone we knew and met about the wonderful opportunity we would have to hear from the Sisters in Women's Conference and how much it would bless their lives! A woman named Olga and her daughter were able to come and watch and we know it blessed them immensely!

Fun tender mercy during conference was that I saw an old friend performing in the choir! Shout out to miss Rachel Madsen! You looked great, sounded amazing,  and definitely brought the spirit!

I think what stood out the most to me was the need to understand and apply the Doctrine of Jesus Christ in our lives. I know that if we have Faith in our Savior, we can do all things. He has given us the gift of Repentance so that we may overcome our weaknesses, receive forgiveness of our sins, and be worthy to enter into the Father's kingdom again one day. He has shown forth the example of Baptism and has taught us that through that sacred promise we make, we receive a remission of our sins. The Holy Ghost will bring all things to our remembrance and comfort us in our times of trial and heartache. As we do all these things continually, we will be able to endure to the end, or as one of my favorite scriptures says "cheerfully do all things" until we "stand still" and glory in our Father in Heaven. 

I want to add my testimony to those that have been borne, and those that will be given in the upcoming General Conferences, that our Savior lives, He has restored His gospel once again to the Earth and our families can be sealed together for time and all eternity because of that restoration. 

We are gearing up for a special zone conference before General Conference where we will be singing one of my favorite hymns, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." It isn't in our hymnbook, but it's message has always spoken volumes to me.  

"Jesus saught me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God. He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood."
